Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Getting in a Workout: Goaltender Mike Dunham was assigned to the Gladiators on Saturday for a conditioning assignment. He made 20 saves for the Gladiators in a 5-3 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday. The nine year NHL veteran was activated off the IR on Friday and backed up Kari Lehtonen in the Thrashers 2-0 shutout of the St. Louis Blues Friday night. Prior to being activated off of the injured reserve, Dunham had missed the Thrashers previous 28 games.
Sharrow Flies to Chicago: Defenseman Jimmy Sharrow was called up to the Chicago Wolves on Friday and appeared in two games over the weekend with the Gladiators AHL affiliate posting an even ranking and 7 penalty minutes. The Defenseman was assigned to Gwinnett on November 23rd. Prior to being called up, Sharrow appeared in 23 games for the Gladiators this season, where he has scored 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points.
Troy needs 3: After picking up an assist in the Gladiators 5-3 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night, Gladiators defenseman Troy Milam is just 3 points shy of tying his career high for points in a season and is three points shy of tying his ECHL career high for points in a season. Milam had an ECHL career best 6 goals and 27 assists during his rookie campaign during the 2003-04 season with the Gladiators. He had a goal that same season with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL for a season total of 7 goals and 34 points. Milam currently has 31 points on the season.
No Success in the Shootout - The Gladiators remain winless this season in the shootout after dropping a 5-4 decision to the Grrrowl on Thursday night. Gwinnett entered the game winless in the shootout in four previous tries. All is not lost if the game is tied at the end of regulation as the Gladiators have won two games in overtime this season. After playing in five shootoutS this season, it is the longest the Gladiators have gone without a shootout win. Gwinnett won the first shootout it was in last year and won the second shootout the team was in during the Gladiators inaugural 2003-04 season. The Gladiators organization, as the Mobile Mysticks, set the ECHL record for most overtime/shootout losses with 18 during the 2001-02 season.
100 for Campbell: Forward Jeff Campbell posted his 100th career ECHL point in the Gladiators 2-1 win over the Greenville Grrrowl. Campbell posted an assist on Troy Milam's power play goal at the 13:59 mark of the 2nd period. Campbell is still 4 goals shy of 50 in his ECHL career. Chris Durno became the first Gladiator to reach 50 goals in a career a feat he accomplished on November 22nd.
Gajic with a trio! Forward Milan Gajic posted three assists in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Greenville Grrrowl. It set a career high for assists in a game while tying a career high for points in a game matching his 3 points, all goals, set back on January 6th in Augusta. He then tied his career high for points posting three assists for the second time in three days in Saturday's 5-3 win over Charlotte. Gajic has posted at least a point in all but two of the 12 games he's been with the Gladiators. During that span, Gajic has recorded 20 points (7g, 13a) for Gwinnett.
A true Advantage: The Gladiators posted three power play goals in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss at Greenville to set a new team record at 6 games for most games in a season with three or more power play goals in a single game. The Gladiators set the previous team high of five games with at least three power play goals during Gwinnett's inaugural 2003-04 season. Last year, the Gladiators scored three or more power play goals in just two games. Gwinnett has snapped the record just 33 games into this season and are on pace to finish the year with a little over 13 games with at least three power play goals.
