Tribe Bats Falter in Series Finale
May 5, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Despite a 3-for-3 performance by Jake Elmore, the Indy bats never woke up in an 8-0 defeat to Louisville to split the series, 2-2. The Tribe went 3-4 over the seven-game slate at Victory Field for their third homestand loss in the last four dating back to 2018.
Odrisamer Despaigne (W, 2-2) held the Tribe to only four hits and two walks in his 7.0-inning outing. He pitched out of a one-out jam in the fourth inning. Elmore singled and Jose Osuna doubled to put two runners in scoring position, but Despaigne retired Jacob Stallings on a groundout and Kevin Kramer on a strikeout to end the threat.
Elmore and Osuna collected the only Indians hits on the afternoon.
Louisville (13-18) hopped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Scott Schebler came around to score on a Luis Gonzalez single. The lead doubled in the third on Schebler's second single of the game, bringing Christian Colon in from second. A leadoff walk in the top of the fifth followed by consecutive hits extended the Tribe deficit to 4-0.
The Indians (15-14) offense couldn't get going as the Bats kept tacking on runs. Four straight hits in the sixth inning widened the score to 7-0, and Colon ended the scoring in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
Eduardo Vera (L, 0-3) allowed a career-high tying seven runs on a career-high 11 hits in 5.0 innings pitched. Montana DuRapau allowed his first earned run of the season on Colon's sac fly.
Geoff Hartlieb posted 2.0 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts for the Tribe.
The Tribe begin a six-game road trip at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday in a 6:35 p.m. ET start.
