Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
DAYTON, Ohio - In a game that featured 10 errors, the TinCaps absorbed a 7-3 loss to the Dayton Dragons Tuesday at Fifth Third Field in Dayton. Jonathan Galvez doubled twice in a threehit performance.
The TinCaps have made 12 errors in their last three games. Dayton took the lead in the bottom of the 1st, scoring twice despite only hitting one ball out of the infield. DiDi Gregorius led off with an infield single and went to second on a Henry Rodriguez single to center. Chris Richburg hit a grounder to short which was mishandled to load the bases, then Josh Garton hit a double-play ball which was bobbled and turned into an RBI groundout.
Shane Carlson drove home the second run with a groundout and the Dragons were ahead, 2-0.
The TinCaps tied the game in the top of the 3rd. Galvez and Wande Olabisi hit back-to-back doubles to cut the deficit in half, then Bo Davis hit a ground ball that was booted to allow Olabisi to score from second and tie it at 2-2.
In the top of the 4th, Galvez ripped a two-out double to center and scored when Olabisi reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. That put Fort Wayne ahead, 3-2.
Dayton scored a run of its own in the bottom of the 4th with the help of another error, then tacked on three in the bottom of the 5th as the TinCaps committed another miscue, making it 6-3. Rymer Liriano made a dazzling play to end the inning. With the infield in and a runner at third with one out, Alex Oliveras hit a flare to shallow right-center. Liriano, the right-fielder made a sliding catch, popped up and fired a one-hop strike to the plate to nail the runner and end the inning.
Liriano had three outfield assists in the game. In the 8th, Dayton scored the final run of the game on an RBI single by Rodriguez, pushing the Dayton lead to 7-3.
TinCaps RHP Jerry Sullivan (1-2) took the loss while Dayton RHP Pedro Villareal (1-2) notched the win, striking out seven in 5.2 innings.
The teams are now tied in the Eastern Division standings with matching 15-17 records.
The TinCaps finish the three-game series Wednesday against the Dragons (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) at 7:00 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (2-2) gets the ball opposite Dayton RHP J.C. Sulbaran (2-1).
