Straily Gets Cougars Even in Beloit

May 11, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release

BELOIT, Wisc. - Dan Straily posted his second straight quality start, Leonardo Gil was a homer shy of the cycle and Nino Leyja and Max Stassi each had two hits as the Kane County Cougars rolled to a 5-1 victory Tuesday night against the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field. The Cougars evened the three-game set and climbed back above the .500 mark.

For the second night in a row, the Cougars grabbed an early lead, and this time did not relinquish it. Leyja and Franklin Hernandez each had an RBI single in the second, and Leyja also singled home Anthony Aliotti in the third to make it 3-0. Gil tripled in Tyreace House in the fifth and Stassi belted his sixth homer with a two-out solo shot in the seventh to account for the Cougars' final run.

Straily (4-1), who tossed six shutout innings last Thursday in a win in Burlington, gave up one unearned run on three hits over six innings in the victory. He walked one and fanned six, contributing the Cougars' sixth quality start in eight games. Connor Hoehn worked two hitless innings, and Josh Lansford faced the minimum in the ninth to wrap it up.

The Cougars (17-16) and Snappers (19-13) continue the three-game set Wednesday night at 6:30 CT. Kyle Christensen (0-1, 13.50) will oppose Miguel Munoz (0-1, 4.03). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online at www.kccougars.com, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15 p.m.
