Fornataro Throws Six Scoreless in Split with Wisconsin

DAVENPORT, Ia. - The Quad Cities River Bandits split a doubleheader with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday night. The Bandits took game one 4-0 and fell in the second of the twinbill 6-2.

Eric Fornataro (3-2) started game one, throwing six scoreless against the Timber Rattlers. He fanned a season high, eight, without walking a batter in his third win of the season. Kyle Heckathorn (1-3) was charged with his third loss of 2010 surrendering three runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out six in the losing effort. Justin Smith shut the door in the seventh for Quad Cities striking out two in one inning of work.

C.J. Beatty led the way for the Bandits in game one when he hit a bases loaded double, bringing three runs across the plate. Beatty's double came in the fourth after Matt Adams and Ryde Rodriguez singled. Ryan Jackson then drew a one-out walk to load the bases, setting the table for Beatty. Niko Vasquez added the fourth and final run on a solo homer in the fifth, it was his fourth of the season. Adams was 2-for-3 with a double, while Rodriguez added a pair of singles going 2-for-3 as well.

Michael Blazek (2-2) started for the Bandits in game two, saddling his second loss of the season. He allowed six runs, just two earned, in one and two thirds innings for the Bandits. Blazek's piggyback partner, Jorge Rondon, shut the Rattlers down, throwing 4.1 innings in relief without allowing a hit. Maverick Lasker (1-2) recorded his first win of the season, surrendering just two runs on two hits. Lasker walked two and punched out four in his winning effort.

The Bandits scored just two runs on three hits, while Wisconsin scored six on three hits. Jason Stidham was 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the game two,w hile Adams drove in a run in the first when he grounded out. Scooter Gennett hit a grand slam in the second to give Wisconsin a 6-2 lead, and Quad Cities couldn't overcome the four run deficit.

Quad Cities and Wisconsin finish their three game series with an afternoon finale on Wednesday when righty Shelby Miller (0-2) takes the hill for the Bandits to face off with fellow right-hander Nick Bucci (0-1). Fans can enjoy an all-you can eat ticket at the ballpark when the Bandits and Rattlers finish the series with a 1 p.m. start time at Modern Woodmen Park.
