
Dragons Earn Fifth Straight Home Win

Dayton, Ohio - Henry Rodriguez collected four hits to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 7-3 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Tuesday night before a crowd of 8,531 at Fifth Third Field. The win was the Dragons fifth straight home victory and improved their home record to 12-5 on the year. Their overall mark is 15-17. Fort Wayne fell to 15-17 with the loss.
Dayton collected 13 hits in the game and took advantage of six Fort Wayne errors. Didi Gregorius, Chris Richburg, and Mark Fleury each had two hits to support Rodriguez's second four-hit game of the year.
The Dragons scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, loading the bases with no one out on singles by Gregorius and Rodriguez and an error. Josh Garton and Shane Carlson each delivered RBI ground outs to make it 2-0.
Fort Wayne took advantage of two Dayton errors in the third to tie the game at 2-2. The TinCaps scored again in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Dayton tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Alex Oliveras.
The Dragons took the lead for good in the fifth. Rodriguez singled to left to start the inning and went to third on Josh Garton's double off the left field fence. Carlson reached on an error as Rodriguez scored to give Dayton a 4-3 lead. Fleury followed with a double over the head of the left fielder to drive in both Garton and Carlson to make it 6-3. Rodriguez drove in another run in the eighth with a bases-loaded single to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Pedro Villarreal (1-2) picked up the win. He worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) with one walk and seven strikeouts.
The Dragons host the TinCaps again Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in the series finale as Dayton tries for its second straight home series sweep. J.C. Sulbaran (2-1, 5.40) will start for Dayton against Mike Watt (2-2, 4.03).
