Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps saw their eight-game win streak snapped Tuesday at the hands of the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 9-5. Everett Williams had a two-hit game including a two- run double.
The game lasted three hours and 48 minutes, the longest nine-inning game of the year.
It was a pitchers' duel early. In the top of the fifth, the Hot Rods loaded the bases with nobody out. Robi Estrada roped a one-out single to left, Tyler Bortnick lifted a sacrifice fly and Brett Nommensen reached on an RBI infield single to make it 3-0.
The TinCaps stormed back in the bottom of the sixth. Edinson Rincon drove in a run with an infield single. Williams cracked a two-out, two-run double to right, then Danny Payne tripled to right-center to give the TinCaps a 4-3 lead.
The lead didn't last long as the Hot Rods struck on Nommensen's two-run triple to retake the lead at 5-4.
Bowling Green blew it open in the top of the ninth, scoring four times. Nommensen again came up with the key hit, another two-run triple.
Down 9-4 in the ninth, Jason Hagerty clubbed his second double of the night to lead off. He later scored on Jonathan Galvez's RBI double.
Bowling Green RHP Yorman Mayora (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Fort Wayne RHP Robert Poutier (4-3) took the loss. Hot Rods LHP Jake Sullivan received his fourth save of the year.
