Hot Rods Heading Home in Playoff Hunt

August 10, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, are urging fans to come out to Bowling Green Ballpark and root the Hot Rods into the 2010 Midwest League Playoffs. Heading into a six-game home stand on Wednesday night, Bowling Green finds itself just one game out of the playoff chase with 26 games left.

On Wednesday night, the West Michigan Whitecaps come to Bowling Green Ballpark to kick-off the Hot Rods home stand. The Hot Rods have won five of their nine meetings with the affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. West Michigan has been playing well lately, rattling off a six-game winning streak to pull even with the Hot Rods in the playoff chase.

After three games with West Michigan, the Hot Rods welcome in the Great Lakes Loons for a three-game series through the weekend. The Loons, who recently announced an extension of their partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers, are in first place in the Eastern Division. However, as they already clinched a playoff spot in the first half, their second-half standing has no bearing on the current playoff race.

In addition to pennant-fever baseball, the Hot Rods have a host of exciting promotions for fans of all ages this week:

Wednesday v. West Michigan (6:35 PM): An ode to the item that makes shopping for birthdays and holidays tolerable, the Hot Rods hold Gift-Card-O-Mania to begin the home stand. The team will be giving away more than 50 gift cards to places like Best Buy, SUBWAY, Mariah's, Regal Car Wash, S & R Tires, and others.

Thursday v. West Michigan (6:35 PM): Thrifty Thursday featuring a variety of $2 specials including bigger draft beers, nachos, pizza slices, popcorn, medium sodas, and Kids Play Area Passes. Plus, catch a pre-game concert with The Black Shades, writers of the `2010 Hot Rods Theme Song.'

Friday v. West Michigan (7:05 PM): Friday Night Fireworks presented by Crossroads IGA and WBKO. Plus, courtesy of IGA, the first 1,000 kids 12 & under get a Hot Rods Lunch Box for FREE.

Saturday v. Great Lakes (7:05 PM): Courtesy of Griff's Deli, the first 1,000 fans will take home a Hot Rods Drawstring Bag. Plus, it's the last chance for fans to enter the Holley Hot Rod Car Show & Parade and be eligible for the season-ending winner-take-all-parade on August 28.

Sunday v. Great Lakes (2:05 PM): On a WNKY Family Sunday, the Hot Rods will celebrate First Responders with Heroes Day. Plus, the first 1,000 fans get one of the Hot Rods most unique giveaways in 2010: a comic book featuring Axle the Bear on the cover thanks to Bellewood Presbyterian Homes for Children. After the game, kids 14 & under can run the bases in the Smucker's Uncrustables Fun Run.

Monday v. Great Lakes (6:35 PM): To end the home stand, the Hot Rods honor the men and women of the Armed Forces with Military Monday presented by Beaver 96.7 FM. The night will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides services to men and women severely injured while serving in the Armed Forces. In addition to a special ticket fundraiser, there will be a silent auction featuring autographed items by the 2009 and 2010 Hot Rods as well as Major League Baseball stars Evan Longoria, Kevin Youkilis, and Dustin Pedroia, all supporters of WWP.

Tickets for all six games are available by calling or visiting the Hot Rods Ticket Office at Bowling Green Ballpark at 270.901.2121 or by ordering and printing your tickets at home at www.bghotrods.com. Fans can also check out a complete list of promotions on the team's website.

The Hot Rods return home to begin an action-packed six-game home stand on Wednesday night against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) and the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers). Wednesday night is Gift-Card-O-Mania presented by Best Buy. First pitch on Wednesday night is 6:35 PM. For a full list of promotions and tickets for the upcoming home stand, visit www.bghotrods.com.
