Lansing Lugnuts News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. - Eric Eiland went 3-for-3 with a walk and four runs scored and the Lansing Lugnuts (21-23; 57-56) handed the Great Lakes Loons (33-11; 76-37) their worst loss of the season, a 12-3 rout in front of a record crowd on Tuesday evening at Dow Diamond.

The victory ended Lansing's season-high seven-game losing streak in emphatic fashion.

Losing pitcher Josh Wall (7-6) was strafed for nine hits and seven runs (four earned) by a balanced Lugnuts offensive attack.

Relievers Edwin Contreras and Ji-Mo Lee fared no better, as the Lugs tallied in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth innings.

The Lugnuts compiled 15 base hits in all, with Eiland and Ryan Schimpf each notching three hits and Kevin Ahrens, Balbino Fuenmayor, and Michael Crouse picking up a pair of hits apiece.

Lansing starter Matt Fields (4-6) earned the victory, allowing two runs (one earned) in six innings while scattering eight base hits.

Dan Barnes made his Lugnuts debut with a scoreless seventh and Aaron Loup recorded the final six outs, allowing the Loons their final run on a wild pitch in the eighth.

The Lugnuts next open a three-game series at Dayton, sending left-hander Egan Smith (4-2, 4.58) to the mound against Dragons right-hander Jacob Johnson (6-6, 4.08) in the 7:00 p.m. Wednesday opener.
