Bees Fail To Score Despite Ten Hits

August 10, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

On Monday night, for the second time this season, the Bees failed to score despite pounding out ten hits. The result? Kane County handed the Bees an 8-0 loss, extending the team's losing streak to a season-high-tying seven games.

The Bees had four multi-hit innings, but never came closer to scoring that they did in the fourth. With a runner on second and two outs, Deivy Batista roped a single to center. Ben Theriot, on base following a base hit of his own two batters earlier, got the green light at third, but was thrown out at the plate by ten feet on a dart from center fielder Rashun Dixon.

Despite five walks, Keaton Hayenga (L, 1-10) came within one out of his fourth straight quality start. The righty allowed three earned runs (four total) on four hits with four strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. His counterpart, 19-year old southpaw Ian Krol (W, 9-4), lowered his ERA to 2.53 with five shutout innings.

Jake Kuebler led the offense with three hits, and Batista had two as the Bees outhit Kane County 10-7.

The Bees and Cougars square off for the final time in 2010 on Hawk Eye Two-for-Tuesday at 6:30. Clip the coupon out of Tuesday's edition of the newspaper to receive two general admission tickets for the price of one.
