San Antonio Rampage News Release

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (April 6, 2009) - It took 18 days and two venues but San Antonio completed a 5-2 win versus Lake Erie at Hoover Arena as Joel Perrault celebrated his 26th birthday with two goals, including the game winner.

Sean Zimmerman scored his first AHL goal back on March 21st with 2:26 remaining in the first period to put the Rampage up 1-0 at Quicken Loans Arena. After the period, the game was suspended due to unsafe ice conditions.

Resuming play today with the start of the second period, the Rampage scored with 2:25 remaining in the second to go up 2-0. Joel Perrault scored on a Rampage power-play for his 17th of the season.

Darcy Campbell, however, cut the lead in half with just twenty-eight second remaining in the period with a power-play goal, his seventh of the season.

Early in the third, the Monsters evened things up at 2-2 when Per Ledin scored his 11th of the season beating Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman 2:25 into the frame with a shorthanded tally. Tordjman replaced starting goalie Al Montoya who was recalled by Phoenix (NHL) on March 23rd.

Those goals were the first allowed by Tordjman after shutting out Iowa on consecutive nights over the weekend beating Iowa 2-0 on Friday and 1-0 on Saturday to set the franchise mark for most shutouts.

But Perrault gave the Rampage the lead with his second power-play goal of the game at the 10:38 mark to put the Rampage up 3-2.

Lake Erie got a breakaway chance with less than two minutes remaining in the game when Philippe Dupuis got loose. But Tordjman got his stick on the backhand attempt to steer it high and wide to secure the 3-2 lead.

San Antonio looked to have things wrapped up when a Lake Erie penalty left them shorthanded seconds later, but a Perrault penalty evened the ice at four-on-four with just over a minute remaining.

But the Rampage iced the game when Wyatt Smith deposited an empty netter with thirty-seven seconds left in regulation to take a 4-2 lead. Moments later, Sean Sullivan stuck another in the empty cage to close out a 5-2 Rampage win.

Perrault entered tonight scoring in five straight with a nine-game points streak dating back to March 19th. Perrault also has goals in 8 of 9 contests totaling 10 goals and 4 assists with 5 game-winning goals, including tonight.

Tordjman picks up the win in relief of Montoya to move to 25-21-2. Monsters goalie Tyler Weiman went the distance stopping 32 of 35 shots.

The win was also the eighth in the last nine games for San Antonio who return to the Lone Star State for a three-game series with Houston this weekend. The Rampage travel to Houston for a Friday game before returning to San Antonio for the Rampage home finale.

Both teams go back to Houston to finish off their regular season slates on Sunday. While San Antonio is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, the Rampage can finish the season at .500 with a sweep of the Aeros. San Antonio began the season 2-20-0-1. Meanwhile, Houston is jockeying for playoff position in the ultra-competitive West.

It's Fan Appreciation Night when the Rampage host the Aeros on Saturday, April 11th at the AT&T Center. Enjoy the festivities with prize giveaways and more this Saturday for the home finale.
