Wild reassign Kolanos to Houston, Aeros ink defensemen Testwuide, Scandella

HOUSTON, Texas - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Marco Scandella to an entry-level contract, beginning with the 2009-10 season. The Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL) have signed Scandella and defenseman JP Testwuide to amateur tryout contracts (ATO) for the remainder of the 2008-09 season. In addition, the Wild has reassigned center Krys Kolanos to the Aeros.

Scandella, 19 (2/23/90), recorded 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) and 67 penalty minutes (PIM) in 58 games with the Val d'Or Foruers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2008-09. Scandella recorded eight power play goals and led all Foruers defensemen in scoring. He posted 14 points (4-10=14) and 35 PIM in 65 games during his rookie season of 2007-08. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of Montreal, Quebec was the Wild's second-round pick (No. 55 overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Scandella won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2008 Under-18 IIHF World Championships, posting two points (1-1=2) and a plus-7 rating in seven games. Scandella's uncle, Sergio Momesso, was drafted 27th overall by Montreal in 1983 and played in the NHL from 1985-97 and his brother, Guilio, plays on the Italian National team and plays pro hockey in Milano. Scandella will wear No. 18 with the Aeros.

Testwuide, 24 (11/5/84), tallied 13 points (3-10=13) and 110 PIM in 36 games with the NCAA's University of Denver in the 2008-09 season. Testwuide helped the Pioneers earn a No. 1 seed in the West Region bracket during the NCAA tournament. The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Vail, Colorado recorded 28 points (5-23=28) and 282 PIM in his four-year college career. Testwuide will wear No. 13 with the Aeros.

Kolanos, 27 (7/27/81), has been recalled five times this season and has recorded six points (3-3=6) in 21 games with Minnesota. He ranks tied for second on the Wild with a plus-3 rating. Kolanos has registered 46 points (26-20=46) including a team-leading 26 goals in 43 games with Houston this season. He was recalled on Nov. 3 and tallied a goal the next night at San Jose in his first NHL game since Dec. 15, 2005. The native of Calgary, Alberta has notched 41 points (20-21=41) in 136 career NHL matches with Phoenix, Edmonton and Minnesota. Kolanos was originally selected by the Coyotes in the first round (19th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and signed as a free agent by the Wild on July 11, 2008. Kolanos wears No. 36 with the Aeros.
