Houston Aeros News Release
Heading into the final week of the regular season the Houston Aeros stand fourth in the West Division. The Aeros have a magic number of just one point over the Quad City Flames to make the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs. The Aeros will play a three-in-three series against the San Antonio Rampage to finish the regular season this Friday through Sunday as they look to clinch a playoff spot.
The Aeros' 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs scenarios are as follows:
Houston earns a berth into the playoffs by recording one point or a Quad City non-win over the final three games.
Houston earns a #3 seed by recording more points than Rockford over the final three games.
Houston earns a #2 seed by recording five (5) more points than Peoria over the final three games.
The Rampage and Aeros will face off at Toyota Center Friday at 7:35 p.m. and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. and in San Antonio on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Aeros have a 3-2-0 record against the Rampage so far this season but only have one more goal scored (19-18) against the I-10 rival. San Antonio has won the last two contests after Houston opened the season series with three straight wins. The first meeting of the season set an Aeros record for most overall goals scored in a game with Houston winning 8-6 on October 18 at Toyota Center.
The final three games of the regular season also feature a number of fun activities for Aeros fans. Friday is the Aeros Yuppie Night and Fight MS/Diabetes Night each with their own special ticket offers to benefit non-profit organizations. Click here for more information on Friday's specials. Saturday is the Aeros and Buc-ee's Road Trip to San Antonio and limited spots still remain, click here to get on the buses headed down I-10. WEEK IN REVIEW
The Aeros took just two points from four games last week with a record of 1-3-0 but moved within one point of punching their ticket to the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs. The four games marked the last half of a stretch in which the team played eight contests in 11 nights. Three of the games last week were on the road including the lone win in Iowa.
The Houston Aeros dropped a 3-0 decision to the Lake Erie Monsters Saturday night keeping the team ranked fourth in the West Division. Lake Erie held a 1-0 lead entering the third period but netted two quick goals to keep the Aeros at bay and from clinching a playoff spot over the weekend.
The Houston Aeros fell 3-1 in Peoria as the Rivermen took sole possession of second place in the West Division Friday night. The loss, coupled with a Rockford win, slipped the Aeros into fourth place but tied in points with the IceHogs. The Aeros started Rejean Beauchemin in net for his first contest with Houston stopping 16 of 19 shots in the loss.
The Houston Aeros tied the game twice but couldn't take the extra step to pass the Iowa Chops as the West Division foe took a 5-3 win Thursday night at Toyota Center. Houston remained tied with Peoria at 84 points but slipped behind them based on number of wins - the first tiebreaker.
The Houston Aeros regained sole possession of second place in the West Division with a 6-2 win over the Iowa Chops Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Houston scored five special-teams goals including three shorthanded goals for their 37th win of the season. Six different Aeros scored, including Corey Locke's (pictured above) two points, and Anton Khudobin stopped 14 of 15 shots for his second win of the season.
