Moose Drop Four Points In Week 26
April 6, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose earned zero out of a possible four points in Week 26, dropping their final two regular season home games to the Toronto Marlies. This is the first time the club was swept in a two-game series at home since the opening two games of the season against Hamilton. Despite the pair of losses, Manitoba still clinched top spot in the North Division thanks to a loss by Grand Rapids on Friday night. This is the second time in club history and the second time in the past three seasons that Manitoba has finished first overall in their division.
Friday, April 3, 2009: Manitoba 1, Toronto 3
It was Fan Appreciation Night at the MTS Centre Friday night, and the Manitoba Moose showed their gratitude with an exciting divisional showdown in front of a sellout crowd. Ultimately, the Moose fell to the Marlies 3-1, but still clinched first place in the North Division with a loss by Grand Rapids. Dusty Collins scored the lone goal for Manitoba, while goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 24 shots.
Saturday, April 4, 2009: Manitoba 2, Toronto 3
In their final home game of the regular season, the Manitoba Moose dropped a 3-2 decision to the Toronto Marlies in front of 13,043 fans at the MTS Centre on Saturday night. This was the fifth consecutive loss the Moose have suffered at the hands of the Marlies. Jason Krog and Mark Cullen both notched goals for the Moose, while goaltender Curtis Sanford stopped 25 shots for only his third regulation loss.
Moose Notes
OG RACKS 'EM UP:: After earning on goal on Saturday night, Moose sniper Jason Krog is nine points shy from breaking the franchise record for most points in a single season. The current record is 93 points and was achieved by Bill Bowler in 1998-99. Krog now sits third in the entire AHL in scoring, only 10 points behind the first place Keith Aucoin and Alexandre Giroux from Hershey. He leads the Moose in goals (30), assists (54), as well as powerplay goals (10), and is on pace to also set the new team standard for plus/minus as he is currently +25 (Lee Goren holds the Moose franchise record at +24, '04-05).
TWO POINTS WILL DO THE TRICK: Thanks to a loss by Grand Rapids on Friday night, the Manitoba Moose have clinched first place in the North Division for the second time in three seasons. With 104 points, the club will finish at the top of their class and can still finish first in the conference and in the league. The Moose are one point ahead of the Milwaukee Admirals for first place in the Western Conference and they are tied with the Hershey Bears for overall top spot in the AHL.
Upcoming Opponents
The Manitoba Moose will finish their regular season with a three-game road trip. The club will close out their series against Hamilton on Wednesday, Toronto on Friday and Lake Erie on Sunday before embarking on the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs.
