Chesapeake Baysox News Release
(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox got two RBI each from Nolan Reimold and Blake Davis to go along with 5.0 solid innings from Chris Tillman to win their second in a row in Harrisburg, 7-3 Sunday. Reimold and Matt Wieters each homered in the contest and eight out of nine Baysox got hits as Tillman improved to 11-4 on the year, winning his fourth straight start.
The Baysox got things started early with five runs in their first three turns at bat. Carlos Rojas hit a one-out single in the top of the first inning in front of Nolan Reimold, who lifted one over the wall in left field to make it 2-0 Bowie. It was the 24th homerun of the year for Reimold, tying him with Jeff Nettles for second on the team.
Bowie scored twice more in the top of the second when Mike Rodriguez hit a one-out single to left field. With Rodriguez running, Jonathan Tucker hit a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. Blake Davis drove a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Rodriguez. Marvin Lowrance was a little too routine in getting the ball back in and Tucker took advantage by tagging up and advancing to second base. With two outs, Sebastien Boucher made that aggressiveness count by driving Tucker in with a single to right, making it 4-0 Baysox.
The Senators got on the board in the bottom of the second when Marvin Lowrance singled to lead off the inning. Edgardo Baez struck out but Lowrance stole second base and advanced to third when Matt Wieters threw the ball away trying to catch him. Bill Rhinehart singled up the middle to score Lowrance and make it 4-1 Bowie.
The Baysox got that run back in the top of the third on a solo homerun by Matt Wieters, his 12th of the season, giving Bowie a 5-1 lead.
Harrisburg scratched out another run in the bottom of the inning when Seth Bynum hit a solo homerun to lead things off. It was the 15th homerun of the season for Bynum and it cut the Baysox lead to 5-2.
Bowie picked up another run in the top of the sixth. Matt Wieters led off with a single to center field and Jeff Nettles followed with a double to left, putting runners on second and third. After a strikeout, Senators pitcher Bobby Brownlie walked Mike Rodriguez intentionally to load the bases with one out. Jonathan Tucker lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Wieters for a 6-2 Baysox lead before Blake Davis grounded out to end the inning.
Tillman failed to pitch into the sixth inning for the first time since July, coming out of the game after the fifth. He allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts through those five innings. Rommie Lewis came on for Tillman to work the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lewis worked into the seventh inning with no trouble until giving up a solo homerun to Marvin Lowrance with two outs. It was the 7th homerun of the year for Lowrance and made the score 6-3 Bowie.
The Baysox added another run on an RBI single by Blake Davis in the top of the eighth to make it 7-3. Gerardo Casadiego and Julio Manon combined to work 1.1 shutout innings of relief to close out the victory for Bowie.
With the victory, the Baysox improve to 84-57 and have won the Southern Division title. The Baysox and Senators will play the final game of the regular season Monday afternoon with RHP Zach Clark (4-1, 2.67 ERA) going up against Harrisburg RHP Zach Segovia (3-2, 7.49 ERA).
The Baysox have clinched home field advantage in the first series of the playoffs by winning the Southern Division title Thursday. The Baysox will host games 1 and 2 of the best-of-five series against the Akron Aeros Wednesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 4 with each game starting at 7:05 p.m. The teams will then head to Akron for game 3 and possibly game 4. Should a fifth and decisive game be necessary, it would be played back in Bowie on Sunday, September 7.
The Bowie Baysox are out to Beat The Streaks in their 16th season as the "AA" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Baysox have not reached the postseason since 1997 and have never reached the Eastern League Championship. Playoff tickets are available now on www.baysox.com or by calling the box office at (301) 464-4865.
