Rock Cats Send Two Players to Minnesota

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced this morning that two of their top players - INF Matt Tolbert and LHP Jose Mijares - have been called to the big leagues to join the Minnesota Twins for the American League's 2008 stretch run.

Matt Tolbert, 26, has been with New Britain since August 18th on a Major League Rehabilitation Assignment. The University of Mississippi product began the 2008 Season in Minnesota and remained with the Twins until he sustained a left hand injury in mid-May. The 6'0"/177-pound Infielder returned to competitive action in August and appeared in 12 games for the Rock Cats, batting .250 with 3 Doubles and 5 RBI. He will join the Twins in Toronto on Tuesday night.

Jose Mijares, 23, has been in a New Britain uniform since August 5th as the southpaw bullpen specialist continued his rehabilitation from an arm injury suffered in the off-season. A member of Minnesota's 40-Man roster, the 6'0"/230-pound lefty made 10 appearances out of the New Britain bullpen in 2008, compiling a 1-1 record with 2 Saves and a 2.63 ERA. He will join the Twins in Minnesota on Friday.

Also joining the Twins in their dugout for the 2008 American League stretch run is former Rock Cats Manager, Riccardo Ingram. The 42-year old Ingram was New Britain's skipper for the 2006 and 2007 campaigns; he has served as the Hitting Coach for Triple-A Rochester Red Wings this year.
