Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

The Tigers head into the Christmas break with a home and home series against the rival Lethbridge Hurricanes. The opening game of the series took place Friday night in Lethbridge. It was the second of eight meetings between the teams this season. The Hurricanes came away with the victory in their first meeting on November 19th.

Lukas Svejkovsky opened the scoring less than a minute into the game while shorthanded. He intercepted a drop pass in the Lethbridge zone and found the bottom right corner of the net with a quick wrister. The Tigers would make it a 2-0 game a few minutes later. Reid Andresen let a wrister go from down low near the goal line that snuck between the netminder and the post for his second of the season. Owen MacNeil picked up the assist off the faceoff win. The Hurricanes would cut the lead to one late in the opening frame while on the man advantage. Alex Thacker found Justin Hall at the side of the net with a fake shot that Hall was able to tap in.

Lethbridge was able to even things up at two apiece early in the second period. Logan Barlage redirected Joe Arntsen's point shot into the top of the net. Five minutes later, the Hurricanes would take their first lead of the game. Ty Nash let a wrister go from the left side of the slot that found the back of the net for a power play marker. The lead wouldn't last long though as less than a minute later Oren Shtrom tied the game 3-3 with his sixth of the season. Owen MacNeil found Shtrom streaking to the net on the right side for a one timer. Gleb Ivanov also picked up a helper on the tying goal. The Hurricanes would retake the lead with only a 1:11 remaining in the middle frame. Jett Jones was the recipient of an unfortunate bounce. He got the puck out in front of the net and was go five hole to send the Canes into the third period with a 4-3 lead.

The Hurricanes' power play would strike again midway through the third. Justin Hall battled hard in front of the net and was able to put away his own rebound to make it a two goal game. Lethbridge would add an insurance marker a few minutes later to make it 6-3. Noah Boyko let a hard wrister go from the right circle that found the top left corner. The Tigers kept battling and were able to put another goal on the board before the final whistle. While on the power play, Brayden Boehm grabbed the rebound off Oasiz Wiesblatt's shot and was able to put a backhand shot under the Canes netminder's arm for his third of the season. Gleb Ivanov picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.

Beckett Langkow (2-6-1-1) got the start in net for the Tigers. He saved 26 of the 32 shots he faced.
