
Gavin Makes WHL Debut, Ams Pick up Point in OT Loss to Royals

Victoria, B.C. - The Americans opened a three-in-three weekend today against the Royals. After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Americans scored once in each of the next two periods to push the game into overtime. Although they rallied and banked another point in the standings, the Americans ultimately fell 3-2 to the Royals.
Bailey Peach scored two first period goals for the Royals, both unassisted to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Tyson Greenway had a few close scoring opportunities early in the game and finally cashed in with a goal 13:36 into the second frame to put Tri-City on the board. Greenway's goal, his third of the season, came off a quick wrist shot to the top corner blocker side of netminder Campbell Arnold.
Jordan Gavin, recently selected second overall by the Americans in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, made his WHL debut tonight with the Americans.
Tri-City trailed 2-1 heading into the second intermission.
The game-tying goal came from Marc Lajoie 5:16 into the final frame. Lajoie ripped a hard wrist shot short side from the right circle, scoring top shelf to even the score at two. The goal was Lajoie fifth of the season, assisted by Feenan and Melnyk.
The Americans put up a season-high 42 shots on goal tonight. Out shooting Victoria 42-25.
Tomas Suchanek played the full game in net for the Americans, turning aside 22 of the 25 shots faced.
The game extended into overtime where Brayden Schuurman scored with 36 seconds remaining in the extra frame to give the Royals the victory and extra point.
Tri-City will get a rematch tomorrow as they take on the Royals again in Victoria.
