Edmonton, Alta. - The Swift Current Broncos (11-15-2-1) scored three power play goals Friday night, but it wasn't enough in an 8-5 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings (21-6-2-1).

It was a tough start to the game for the Broncos as the Oil Kings scored twice in the opening 1:23 to jump ahead 2-0. Connor Hvidston answered back for the Broncos 3:03 into the game, scoring his third goal of the season to make it 2-1.

Reid Dyck made a number of big stops to keep the Broncos down just 2-1 throughout the first period, including a pair of breakaway stops on Josh Williams. Carter Souch scored a power play goal to put Edmonton ahead 3-1 after 20 minutes.

Carson Golder added to Edmonton's lead 1:05 into the second period before Jaxsen Weibe was the recipient of a lucky bounce as his centering pass went off a Broncos stick and in. The goal ended the night for Dyck as Isaac Poulter took over in net 7:09 into the second period.

Raphael Pelletier pulled the Broncos back to within two, catching the Oil Kings on a change and beating Kolby Hay over the glove off the rush. Edmonton's Cole Miller put his team up 6-2 heading into the third period with a goal late in the frame.

Josh Filmon scored a power play goal just 1:10 into the third period to make it 6-3, but Souch scored his second of the game 1:10 later to give Edmonton a 7-3 lead.

Rayan Bettahar then scored his first WHL goal with a shot from the slot on the power play, making it 7-4 just over seven minutes into the third.

Williams then intercepted a pass in the Broncos zone to give the Oil Kings an 8-4 lead 10:34 into the period. Pelletier rounded out the scoring with another power play goal, coming with just 27 seconds left in regulation for the 8-5 final score.

The Broncos will face off against the Oil Kings again on Saturday for a 4:00 puck drop before a nine-day Christmas break.
