Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers closed out the first half of the 2022-23 WHL Season in style Saturday Night at Co-op Place winning 4-1 over the Kelowna Rockets.
For the first time in four years the Tigers and Rockets would clash and it would be the visitors getting on the board first thanks to Grady Lenton beating Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) for his 2nd of the year at 11:45 of the first period. But cue Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) as on a late rush with time winding down in the 1st Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) found the streaking forward for his 15th of the season with just .1 seconds left in the first to tie the game at 1-1 going to the 2nd period.
Off to the second period where both teams were trying to find their legs but it would be Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) scoring his 12th of the year from Cru Hanas (Highland Village, TX) to make it 2-1 Tigers at 5:50. The Tigers would hold the Rockets to just two shots in the 2nd.
In the final frame the Tigers put things away thanks to goals from Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) at 10:57 and then Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) at 13:52 to seal the Rockets fate of a 4-1 L.
The Tigers end up outshooting the Rockets 31-14 while both teams were unable to capitalize on the power play with Medicine Hat going 0/3 on the man advantage while Kelowna was 0/2.
Beckett Langkow made 13 saves for his 13th win of the campaign, helping the Tigers improve their record to 13-17-4-1.
Next up for the Orange and Black is their Christmas Break before returning to action December 27th with a road game to Lethbridge and then their return to Co-op Place on December 28th for their 1st meeting of the season against the Swift Current Broncos.
The Tigers organization would like wish all of their fans, families, players and volunteers the safest and most pleasant of holidays this year and look forward to seeing you in the 2nd half of the 53rd Season of Tigers Hockey.
