Spokane Chiefs News Release
Prince Albert, S.K - The Spokane Chiefs closed out the first half of their 2022-23 regular season with a 5-3 loss on the road against the Prince Albert Raiders.
The Chiefs were quick to get on the board, as Michael Cicek swept the puck behind, around the post and over the line for his first goal of the season at 2:52 in the first period.
But the Raiders answered with two goals of their own in the latter half of the period, first from Sloan Stanick at 11:02, then from Landon Kosior on a power play goal at 18:18.
Spokane once again struck first in the middle frame, as Saskatchewan native Blake Swetlikoff picked up a feed from Grady Lane and danced across the crease to sneak it around and over the Raider netminder to tie things up 2-2 at 8:17.
The draw didn't last long though, as Ryder Ritchie scored his sixth goal of the season at 10:12. The Chiefs answered right back when Chase Bertholet carrying the puck up the middle was checked at the blue line, but the puck was picked up by Michael Cicek.
Cicek connected with Kooper Gizowski in the left circle, who rifled the puck into the twine for his fifth goal of the season, tying the game up again at 4:43 in the third.
Spokane's come-back aspirations were shut down, though, later in the period as the Raiders went on to close out the game with two unanswered goals (8:37 by Carson Latimer and 15:17 by Stanick).
The Chiefs went 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill. They were outshot by Prince Albert, 36-33.
Rookie goaltender Cooper Michaluk kept Spokane in it for the bulk of the game, making quite a few spectacular saves throughout the night. In the end, he turned aside 31 Raider shots.
After the holiday break, the Chiefs will play the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Battle of the Sound at Climate Pledge Arena on Tuesday, December 27.
