Calgary, AB - Tonight was the first of seven regular season meetings between the Calgary Hitmen and Lethbridge Hurricanes. A dominant performance from Calgary and goals from six different players contributed to a high-scoring 7-2 win over Lethbridge.
Riley Fiddler-Schultz and Zac Funk both extended their respective point streaks notching Calgary's first two goals in the first period. Matteo Danis would add another to put Calgary up by three.
It was a big night for rookie defenceman Dax Williams, notching his first career Western Hockey League goal to increase the lead to four in the second period. Maxim Muranov would follow up, ending his scoreless streak at 11:12. Lethbridge was able to net one before the end of the period with one from Logan Wormald, cutting the Calgary lead back to four goals.
The third period saw a shorthanded goal from David Adaszsynki, and the seventh goal for Calgary from Danis, his second of the night. Chase Pauls would net one more for Lethbridge shorthanded to cap off the game scoring.
Calgary would go on to kill five Lethbridge power plays, retaining their positon at number one in the league on the penalty kill. Shots finished 36 - 29 in favour of Calgary.
Calgary returns to the ice tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 18 to host the Edmonton Oil Kings in a 2:00 p.m. start at Scotiabank Saddledome. It will be their final game before a nine-day holiday break and is also another Sunday Funday, presented by Brookfield Residential.
