Norfolk Tides News Release

NORFOLK, VA --- The Norfolk Tides (22-8) fell to the Durham Bulls (17-13), 2-1, on Friday night at Harbor Park. The Tides left runners on second and third in the eighth and the bases loaded in the ninth but couldn't execute the comeback.

Two pitchers with significant Major League pitching experience took the hill for each side with Cole Irvin getting the starting nod for the Tides and Tyler Glasnow making a rehab start, his first appearance in a regular season game at any level this season. While Glasnow exited in the third because of a pitch limit, he did not allow a run on two hits with four strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Irvin was dominant as he opened the game with four perfect innings, retiring 12 batters in a row and collecting three strikeouts of his own. However, he would allow his first run of the game on an RBI single by Vidal Bruján. Irvin then allowed a solo home run to Rene Pinto to put Durham up, 2-0. Irvin would finished the innings, going 7.0 innings and allowed the two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four.

The Tides did make a serious comeback attempt in the eighth. With runners on first and second with no outs, Joey Ortiz ripped a double down the right field line to score the runner from second and put runners on second and third with no outs. However, Bulls reliever Trevor Kelley settled in and got out of the jam.

Josh Roberson came in to close the game for Durham and did allow two runners to reach. With Josh Lester up, he hit an easy groundball to Durham second baseman Bruján but he booted it to load the bases. However, Norfolk still couldn't capitalize as the Tides lost, 2-1.

Norfolk looks to bounce back against the Bulls tomorrow night. Scheduled to start for the Tides is RHP Ryan Watson (2-1, 3.63). RHP Taj Bradley (1-1, 13.50) is expected to make the start for Durham.
