Iowa Cubs News Release

COLUMBUS, OH - After scoring just four runs on seven hits through the first two games of the series, the Iowa Cubs' (18-9) offense came back to life, winning game three of the series over the Columbus Clippers (13-16) by a score of 9-5, Friday at Huntington Park.

As they did in each of the first two games, Iowa scored first tonight, pushing two runs across in the first inning. The scoring got started on an RBI double from Jake Slaughter, extending his hitting streak to nine games, and Mike Tauchman made it 2-0 with an RBI single.

Columbus scored a run in the home half of the first on an error to make it 2-1, the lone run they would score against Iowa's starter Caleb Kilian. Kilian spun five innings, allowing just the one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Iowa grew their lead to 4-1 with solo home runs from Tauchman and Jake Washer, but Jhonkensy Noel made it 4-3 with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. Iowa answered with a five-run seventh to go up 9-3.

They scored the five runs on a two-run single from Christopher Morel and a three-run home run by Slaughter. Brayan Rocchio hit a solo home run in the eighth and Raynel Delgado clubbed a solo shot in the ninth, but Jeremiah Estrada recorded the final three outs and earned Iowa their second consecutive win.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Jake Slaughter went 2-for-4 with a double and home run, driving in four runs and extending his hitting streak to nine games.

In his first game back after starting with Chicago, Caleb Kilian spun five innings without allowing a single earned run. The righty allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Iowa and Columbus combined to hit five home runs tonight after scoring just three runs in last night's 2-1 I-Cubs victory.
