January 2, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins have begun 2003 riding a season-high 10-game (9-0-1-0) unbeaten streak that has placed them atop the North Division with their 21-9-6-2 record (50 points). With the team's success, three players were named today to the PlanetUSA Team for February's AHL All-Star Classic. The players are center Matt Herr, center/right wing Andy Hilbert and defenseman Rich Brennan. Brennan and Herr have been named to PlanetUSA's starting lineup. The AHL will announce the roster for Team Canada on Friday.

Brennan, the Bruins' captain, establishes a new league record by being named to play in his seventh AHL All-Star Classic. He leads all AHL defensemen with 3-26-29 totals in 37 games and is tied for fourth in the league with 26 assists. The 30-year-old native of Schenectady, New York also leads the league with 140 shots on goal and ranks fifth on the team scoring list. Brennan, who will be playing in his seventh consecutive All-Star Classic, served as PlanetUSA's team captain last year.

Herr leads the Bruins and is tied for seventh in AHL scoring with 16-19-35 totals in 35 games. He is tied for the league-lead with eight game-winning goals, a franchise single-season record. Herr represented the Hershey Bears at last year's All-Star Classic.

Hilbert, who played for PlanetUSA last year as a rookie, ranks second on the team with 18-14-32 totals in 32 games. He is tied for fifth in the AHL with 18 goals and fourth with eight power play goals. He also ranks second in the league with 133 shots on goal.

Former P-Bruins All-Stars now playing in the NHL include defenseman Jonathan Girard of the Boston Bruins (2002) and forwards Landon Wilson of the Phoenix Coyotes (1999) and Randy Robitaille of the Pittsburgh Penguins (1999). Girard won last year's Fastest Skater and Hardest Shot events at the All-Star Skills Competition.

The All-Star Skills Competition will be held on Sunday, February 2 at 8:00 p.m., while the All-Star Game will be held on Monday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The Bruins will visit the Lowell Lock Monsters on Sunday, January 5 at 4:00 p.m. They return home to host the Worcester IceCats on Friday, January 10 at 7:05 p.m.
