Corvo, Zizka Named To PlanetUSA All-Star Squad

Manchester, NH - Defensemen Joe Corvo and Tomas Zizka will represent the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) at the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, scheduled for February 3, 2003 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, ME. Corvo and Zizka will skate for the PlanetUSA squad. The American Hockey League is expected to announce the Canadian squad on Friday.

Corvo, 25, recalled by the Los Angeles Kings (NHL) on December 13 after defenseman Aaron Miller was placed on the injured reserve list with a fractured left foot, has appeared nine December games for the Kings. The native of Oak Park, IL, made his NHL debut on December 14 against Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL). Prior to his recall, Corvo registered all-star like numbers for the Monarchs collecting eight goals, 18 assists and 26 points in 26 games while leading all AHL blueliners in scoring.

Zizka, 23, ranks in the top three in AHL defensive scoring with eight goals, 17 assists and 25 points in 29 games. The native of Sternberk, Czech Republic scored a good portion of his points last month, totaling two goals, 10 assists and 12 points in 14 December games.

PlanetUSA starters include former Monarchs player and current Providence Bruins (AHL) standout Rich Brennan. The defenseman will be appearing in his seventh AHL All-Star Classic after totaling three goals, 26 assists and 29 points in 37 games. Other PlanetUSA starter named today include Niko Dimitrakos of the Cleveland Barons (AHL), Matt Herr of the Providence Bruins (AHL), John Pohl of the Worcester IceCats (AHL), Brian Pothier of the Binghamton Senators (AHL) and Phillipe Sauve of the Hershey Bears (AHL). Brothers Chris and Peter Ferraro of the Portland Pirates will serve as captains of the PlanetUSA team.
