Hedstrom named to AHL All-Star Classic

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati Mighty Ducks right wing Jonathan Hedstrom has been selected to the PlanetUSA All-Star Team for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, the American Hockey League announced Thursday.

The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be held February 2 and 3 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition takes place Sunday, February 2 at 8:00 p.m. EST. The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. EST Monday, February 3 and will be televised live in the United States and Canada.

Hedstrom, 25, has played 22 games with Cincinnati this season, recording six goals and seven assists with 34 penalty minutes. Due to an eye injury Hedstrom was forced to miss 11 games earlier this season. The 6-foot-0, 200-pounder was the Toronto Maple Leafs eighth choice, 221st overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and is playing in his first season in North America.

The Skelleftea, Sweden native is the 12th Mighty Ducks player to be named to participate in the All-Star Classic. Hedstrom joins Yuri Butsayev, Ilja Bryzgalov, Matt Cullen, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Andy McDonald, Gregg Naumenko, Chris O'Sullivan, Petr Tenkrat, Dan Trebil, Jason Williams and Bob Wren named to a Canadian or PlanetUSA squad.

The Canadian AHL All-Star Team roster will be announced Friday, January 3.
