Penguins Reassign Koci to Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Pittsburgh Penguins today reassigned defenseman David Koci from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) to Wheeling (ECHL), according to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Head Coach Glenn Patrick.

Koci, 21, has appeared in six games with the Penguins, going scoreless with two penalty minutes. In 17 games with the Nailers this season, Koci is scoreless with 32 penalty minutes.

The 6'6", 225-pound native of Prague, Czech Republic, split the 2001-02 season between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling. Koci recorded four points (1+3) and 98 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Penguins and posted six points (2+4) and 105 penalty minutes in 33 games with the Nailers.

He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

With the roster move, the Penguins now have 21 players on their roster - two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 12 forwards.

The Penguins (15-15-2-3, 35 points; third-place, South Division) visit the Philadelphia Phantoms (13-16-1-2, 29 points; fourth-place, South Division) tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Spectrum. The game will be televised live on CN8, The Comcast Network. CN8, a regional news, sports and entertainment network, reaches four million cable homes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.
