Blackhawks Recall Leighton, Assign Andersson to Norfolk

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that the club has recalled goaltender Michael Leighton from the Norfolk Admirals of the Amearican Hockey League. Goaltender Craig Andersson was also assigned to Norfolk (AHL).

Leighton, 21, 6'2", 186 lbs., was the Blackhawks 6th round pick (165th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. This season he has played 1,274 minutes in 21 games while posting a 13-7-1 record, a 2.71 goals against average, a .911 save percentage with one shutout.

Leighton in his second professional season at Norfolk was named to the American Hockey League's All-Rookie Team in 2002. Prior to joining the Admirals last season, Leighton spent three seasons with Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League posting a career record of 49-47-9 with a 3.30 goals against average in 124 games.

Andersson was the Blackhawks' 3rd round pick (73rd overall) in the 2001 NHL entry draft. He made his NHL debut this season with the Blackhawks on November 30th at Los Angeles stopping all four shots he faced in 27 minutes of play. Andersson then made his first NHL start the next night in Anaheim stopping 23 of 26 shots in a 3-2 loss. Prior to joining the Blackhawks, he has played in nine games with Norfolk posting a record of 6-2-0 with a 2.19 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.
