Utah withstood a late rally and defeated Grand Rapids on Tuesday night, 4-3. Eric Landry, David Gosselin, Brett Draney and Jim Montgomery scored as the Grizzlies raced out to 4-0 lead before the Griffins began to mount a comeback. Mike Smith made 43 saves for Utah, including 20 in the third, as Grand Rapids owned a 35-14 edge in shots over the final two periods. Stacy Roest assisted on all three Griffins goals.

Colin Forbes scored twice and added an assist as Portland closed out a grueling week with a 6-2 win in Saint John on Wednesday. The Pirates went 5-1-0-0 as they played six games in seven nights, logging 1,380 miles along the way. Maxime Ouellet posted back-to-back shutouts to ring out 2002 for Portland, including Tuesday's 34-save effort against his former teammates from Philadelphia.

LOOKING AHEAD: Hamilton will be looking for revenge tonight when Binghamton comes to Copps Coliseum (7:00 ET). The Bulldogs are 11-0-2-0 in their last 13 games and have earned a point in 18 straight (15-0-2-1), but no doubt remember an 8-0 loss to the Senators back on Nov. 23. Hamilton has outscored their opponents 80-32 in the 19 contests since then, and is running away with the Canadian Division, entering the weekend with a 22-point lead over Manitoba. Jason Spezza has recorded back-to-back two-goal games for Binghamton.

Having won its last six games, Houston entertains Rochester on Friday night (7:30 CT, 8:30 ET), and then again on Sunday (5:00/6:00). Jean-Guy Trudel (3+6=9 pts.) and rookie Mark Cullen (3+5=8) have led the Aeros' offense during the winning streak, as Houston has outscored the opposition, 28-11. Jaroslav Kristek had 9+9=18 pts. in 13 December games for the Amerks, who kick off a five-game road trip in San Antonio tonight.

Hershey begins a three-in-three weekend in Bridgeport on Friday (7:35 ET) with a chance to pit two of the AHL's top goaltenders against each other. The Bears' Philippe Sauve (13-7-5) and the Sound Tigers' Rick DiPietro (10-7-6) both enter play with a 2.18 goals against average, tied for fifth in the league, and DiPietro's save percentage (.922) is a point higher than Sauve's (.921). Bridgeport has dropped just two of its last 15 at home (11-2-2-0); Hershey is 6-2-1-0 in its last nine road games.

After a four-day rest, Providence puts its 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1-0) on the line Sunday in Lowell (4:00 ET). The Bruins are 3-0-2-0 against the Lock Monsters this season and have dominated on special teams, going 9-for-32 (28.1%) on the power play and killing off 31 of 33 (93.9%) Lowell advantages. Lee Goren has six goals and two assists for the B's in the season series.
