
Conklin and Komisarek Added to PlanetUSA All-Star Roster

The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Ty Conklin and defenceman Mike Komisarek have been named to the PlanetUSA roster for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic to be held on February 2nd and 3rd at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.
Conklin, a 26-year-old native of Anchorage, Alaska, has enjoyed an outstanding season thus far in Hamilton as he has earned a 2.14 goals against average (4th in the AHL), a .920 save percentage and a winning record of 13-5-1. ! The 6'0, 180 pound goaltender's three shutouts are the second most recorded in the AHL this season. This marks the first time that Conklin has been named to the PlanetUSA roster.
Komisarek, a 6'0, 240 pound defencemen, will also make his first appearance in an AHL All-Star Classic. The 20-year-old native of West Islip, New York has had an excellent rookie campaign leading all Bulldogs' defencemen in scoring with 19 points on 2 goals and 17 assists. Among AHL rookies, Komisarek has the most shots on goal (95) and has the second highest plus/minus rating at (+15).
The PlanetUSA team, comprising of players born in the United States and Europe, includes 21 skaters and three goaltenders. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster, including Conklin and Komisarek. The American Hockey League will announce the Canadian AHL All-Star team roster on Friday.
The coaching staff for the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars will be determined later this month. The club with the best points percentage after play on January 12 will send its coach to the All-Star Classic to guide the PlanetUSA team. Bulldogs' head coach Claude Julien is the current leader at (.776), followed by Manchester's Bruce Boudreau (.706), Houston's Todd McLellan (.676), and Providence's Mike Sullivan (.658) and Grand Rapids' Danton Cole (.657).
