Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (Nov. 7th) - Rapid City (4-3-0-1) broke open a scoreless game with three goals in the final period to leave Wichita (2-2-1-1) with a 3-0 victory on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Justin Faryna scored the game-winner 1:50 into the third while Danny Battochio kept the Thunder off the scoreboard for the first time this season with a 23-save shutout performance. Wichita trails 0-1-0-0 in the season-series and will face Rapid City twice next week.
Both defenses were solid in the first two periods as the offenses were held at bay. Wichita was outshot 9-6 through the first 20 minutes of the contest and started to find some better chances in the second. The best sequence of the second came when Tim Boron made a spectacular save on one end on a Jesse Schultz chance from just in front of the crease. After the next face-off, Todd Hosmer came through the Rush defense, but was denied by the glove of Battochio. The game remained tied heading into the final frame.
Early in the third, Danick Gauthier found some room down the right wing, but his wrist shot rang off the post and the game remained scoreless. Shortly after, Justin Faryna won a foot race behind the Thunder net and his wrap around got through Boron for the game's first goal. At 10:09, Landon Oslanski scored on a nice feed from Jesse Schultz that upped the score to 2-0. 23 seconds later, Kyle Stroh scored to make it 3-0 with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle.
Jared Walker's five game scoring streak comes to an end, sitting with six points on the season (4g, 2a). Battochio won the battle against his former teammate, earning the 23-save shutout. Boron suffers his second regulation loss, stopping 26 of 29 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Rapid City was 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
Wichita has the night off tomorrow before returning home on Sunday afternoon. The Missouri Mavericks come to town for the second time this season for a 5:05 p.m. face-off.
