LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (7-2-0-0) earned the 3-2 victory in overtime after giving up a two goal lead late in the third to the Idaho Steelheads (6-2-1-0) on Friday evening at the Budweiser Events Center.
After a scoreless first period, Eagles forward Derek Rodwell scored his first professional goal, putting home a rebound between the circles on the power play, giving the Eagles the 1-0 lead, 3:27 into the second period. Less than three minutes later, Colorado forward Jonathan Parker netted the Eagles second power-play goal of the period, giving the Eagles the 2-0 lead.
The Steelheads avoided the shutout, as forward James Livingston beat Eagles goaltender Kent Simpson with 6:26 left in the third period, cutting the Eagles lead to 2-1. The Steelheads tied the game up at 2-2, 17:36 into the third period, as forward Jesse Root put a puck in the back of the net to close out regulation.
With a tied score of 2-2, the Eagles and the Steelheads headed into a sudden death 3-on-3 overtime due to matching penalties on each team. Eagles defensemen Collin Bowman flew down between the circles beating Steelheads netminder Henri Kiviaho for the game winner just 28 seconds into the overtime period to secure the 3-2 Eagles win.
