Brampton Beast News Release
WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS - The Brampton Beast got goals from Jordan Henry and Alex Foster late in the contest but couldn't find the equalizer as the Worcester Railers hung on to edge the Beast 3-2 at the DCU Center in Worcester on Friday night.
Foster and Henry both extended their respective point streaks to five games for the Beast, while Chris Dreidger turned in another solid performance in goal, finishing the contest with 25 saves.
The Beast outshot the Railers 8-5 in the opening frame thanks in large part to three consecutive power plays, but it was Worcester who scored the only goal of the opening frame. T.J. Syner beat Dreidger with a hard shot in the slot just 3:03 into the contest, giving Worcester the early edge.
The tables turned in the second period, as the Beast were nabbed for three straight penalties and the Nailers were able to capitalize. Worcester captain Mike Cornell stepped into a pass and one-timed a shot beyond the outstretched glove of Dreidger, giving the Railers a 2-0 lead just 1:39 into the second frame.
Just like in the first and second periods, the Railers found a way to strike for a goal early in the third frame. This time, it was Frankie DiChiara getting the goal, beating Dreidger to make it 3-0 for the hometown team just 2:05 into the third period.
From that point onward, the Beast threw everything they had at Worcester and quickly made the game interesting.
Luc Blain won an offensive zone faceoff back to Willie Corrin who flipped a perfect pass across to Henry. He toe-dragged around a defender and stretched out across the crease to tuck the puck under the outstretched pad of Worcester starting goaltender Mitch Gillam for a highlight reel goal to break Gillam's shutout at 7:52.
Down but not out, the Best continued to press and were once again rewarded with a goal. Beast newcomer Jeff Murray, playing in just his second professional game, found the veteran Foster waiting in the slot. He connected on a perfect pass and Foster made no mistake, roofing home his 14th of the season at 11:49, giving Murray his first professional point on the play.
The Beast maintained pressure throughout the remainder of the contest and even drew a penalty and pulled Dreidger in the final two minutes of play to go on a 6-on-4 advantage, but weren't able to beat Gillam again as the Railers hung on for the win.
NOTES: Molson Three Stars: 3) Syner (WOR) 2) Masella (WOR) 1) DiChiara (WOR). Brampton finished the game 0-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Beast and the Railers will conclude their season series tomorrow night at DCU Center at 7:05PM. The season series is tied at three wins apiece
