PLAYOFF PICTURE
With five games left in the regular season, the Monarchs (85) hold a two-point advantage over the Adirondack Thunder (83) for first place in the North Division, with one game in hand over the Thunder. Adirondack can clinch a playoff berth tonight with a Wheeling Nailers or Worcester Railers loss. The Reading Royals (80) sit in third place and can clinch a playoff berth with a win and Wheeling regulation loss, or a win and Worcester loss. The Nailers (75) and Railers (72) will be battling for the final playoff spot in the North.
IN NEED OF A BOUNCE BACK
Manchester has been off to slow starts in the last two games, falling behind 5-1 after two periods to the Adirondack Thunder and 6-0 after two periods to the Reading Royals. In their last 16 games, the Monarchs have allowed the first goal 13 times. This season the Monarchs have allowed the first goal 34 times and have come away with a record of 17-16-0-1 in those games.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
The Monarchs will look towards Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman to get the offense rejuvenated, coming off a shutout Wednesday night. LaVallee-Smotherman has scored eight goals in eight games this season against the Royals, while adding on two assists for 10 points. This season, LaVallee-Smotherman ranks 3rd in the league with 70 points on 33 goals and 37 assists.
