Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (38-27-3-0) earned a 3-2 overtime victory over the Ft. Wayne Komets on Friday night. Forwards Justin Vaive and Daniel Muzito-Bagenda netted the goals on regulation for the Cyclones, while forward Shawn O'Donnell lit the lamp for the game-winner in overtime.

The Cyclones struck first with just 29 seconds left in the opening period, as a point shot from defenseman Anthony Florentino was tipped in by Vaive who was stationed out front to put Cincinnati ahead, 1-0, through 20 minutes.

The Komets evened up the game midway through the second on a goal from defenseman Jason Binkley, tying the game, 1-1. Cincinnati was not deterred and regained the lead late in the frame while shorthanded, when Muzito-Bagenda got his own rebound following a failed breakaway attempt, and he threw a shot that deflected off a defender's skate and in to put the Clones up, 2-1, through two periods.

In the third, Ft. Wayne turned up the offense, outshooting the Cyclones 12-2 in the period. The Komets tied the game at the 6:55 mark of the frame on a goal from forward Dan Maggio, pulling Ft. Wayne even, 2-2. The sides remained deadlocked throughout the remainder of the third, thus forcing overtime.

In the extra session, Cincinnati only needed 2:33 to pick up their third win in a row when Vaive fed O'Donnell and he skated in on goal while being draped by a defender, and he slid the puck in to send Cincinnati to their second overtime victory in the last two games, 3-2.

Cincinnati was outshot, 28-26 on the evening, with goaltender Hayden Stewart shining in his pro hockey debut, steering aside 26 in the win. The Cyclones wrap up the home portion of the 2017-18 season on Saturday against the Toledo Walleye. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
