Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Kansas City Mavericks (33-30-3-2) fell by a 6-3 final score in the final game of a four-game road trip against the Indy Fuel (33-29-4-1) Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

The loss moves the Mavericks three points out of playoff position and into a tie for fifth with the Fuel, who own a game in hand on the Mavericks and Wings.

The first period started slow with both teams struggling to establish themselves in the offensive end, but the home team was able to jump on top as Logan Nelson fired a shot to the back of the net from the slot with just over three minutes left in the opening frame for a 1-0 lead.

The deficit doubled for the Mavericks early in the second as Nelson lit the lamp once again, a power play goal 1:12 into the middle frame for a 2-0 score. Jared VanWormer responded four minutes later, depositing his team-leading 12th power play goal of the season to cut the deficit in half.

Three more goals were then scored in the frame - two for Indy from Josh Shalla and Michael Neal and another for VanWormer in between as the Fuel took a 4-2 advantage into the locker room for the second intermission.

Matt Robertson brought KC back within one less than five minutes into the third with his 21st goal of the campaign, but two unanswered goals from the Fuel lifted the home team to a comfortable win.

The Mavericks return home for their final two regular season home games, Monday and Tuesday against Tulsa and Indy, respectively, at 7:05 p.m.
