
The Aftermath: Storm Drops Road Contest to Buccaneers

URBANDALE, IA. - The Tri-City Storm dropped a road contest to the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 4-2 Friday night at Buccaneer Arena. August Falloon and Evan Werner netted the Storm's goals in the road loss. Tri-City will conclude a five-game road trip Saturday night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena in a matchup against the Omaha Lancers. Puck drop for the matchup is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.
Owen West notched a powerplay goal for Des Moines at 8:42 of Friday's 1st period to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead on home ice. West's goal was his second of the season and was assisted by Joey Muldowney and Davis Borozinskis. August Falloon scored his first goal of the season for Tri-City at 13:02 of the opening period to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Daimon Gardner and Charlie Kinsman each notched an assist on the scoring play. Kinsman's assist was the first assist, and point, of his USHL career. The final goal of Friday's opening period was netted by Jak Vaarwerk to give the Buccaneers a 2-1 lead in the matchup. The goal was scored at 15:41 of the period, and was assisted by Aiden Van Rooyan. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 14-7 in the 1st period, but trailed by one goal entering the 2nd period.
The only goal of Friday's 2nd period was scored by Michael Bevilacqua at 8:06 of the period. The goal was notched unassisted, and was Bevilacqua's third scoring play of the season. The Storm outshot the Buccaneers 10-6 in the 2nd period, but trailed by two goals entering the 3rd period.
Christian Kocsis scored his sixth goal of the season twenty-six seconds into the 3rd period to give Des Moines a 4-1 lead in the contest. The goal was assisted by Jak Vaarwerk. Evan Werner scored his team-leading 11th goal of the year at 6:30 of the 3rd period to cut the Buccaneers lead to 4-2. Graham Gamache and Kieran Cebrian each collected an assist on the scoring play. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 14-7 in the 1st period, 10-6 in the 2nd period, and 15-5 in the 3rd period. The Storm fell by a final score of 4-2, despite outshooting the Buccaneers 39-18 overall in the matchup.
Karlis Mezsargs recorded the loss in net for Tri-City after making 14 saves on 18 shots. Max Lundgren recorded the victory in goal for Des Moines after stopping 37 of Tri-City's 39 shots on goal. The Storm fell to 8-10-0-1 in the loss.
