GENEVA, ILLINOIS- Jack Harvey scored two goals, including a shorthanded overtime game-winner as the Chicago Steel (13-5-1-1; 28 pts) defeated the the Muskegon Lumberjacks (10-7-1-0; 20 pts) in a wild game Friday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

It was the Steel's overtime game for Chicago in the last seven games, and the eighth straight game decided by a single goal.

Chicago broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals early in the third period, but Muskegon came back to score twice in the span of 1:10 late in the game to send it to overtime.

Steel goaltender Jack Stark had another great performance, saving 37 of 40 shots for his third straight win.

Muskegon got the better of the chances in the first period, outshooting the Steel 15-10. Stark kept the Muskegon scoresheet blank including a power play opportunity and a shot that careened across the crossbar and, despite a Muskegon celebration, an initial no-goal call was upheld after video review.

With less than two minutes left in the period, Cameron Johnson carried the puck into the Steel offensive zone only to be met with Muskegon's heavy-hitting defense. Chris Delaney regained possession Chicago and found an open Zam Plante who carried the puck into the slot. Plante ripped a shot which Cameron Johnson capitalized on from the doorstep, banking in the rebound with a backhand shot to open the scoring.

The Steel came out with fire in the second period. On the power play, Macklin Celebrini powered through the offensive zone to make a centering pass from his knees to Jayden Perron. The Steel forward unleashed a shot rebounded off Lumberjacks goaltender Conor Callaghan to Jordan Brisson, drawing Callaghan out of the net to create a scoring opportunity for Celebrini who was unable to capitalize in a chaotic sequence.

A penalty by the Steel at the halfway point of the period resulted in a quick power play goal for Muskegon. Nicholas Rexine won the initial faceoff and sent the puck to George Fegaras. The puck found the stick of Matthew Morden for a quick shot at the point which was deflected by Michael Callow in front of Stark to tie the game at 1-1.

Tensions rose as the period continued, as Jack Brandt and Gavin McCarthy battled in front of the net. The physicality continued as play went on, resulting in a fight between the two late in the second period.

Early in the third period, a failed wraparound chance by Charlie Major sent the puck to Jake Livanavage at the point. Livanavage faked a shot and found an open Harvey at the bottom of the right circle for an odd-angle one-timer goal to give the Steel a 2-1 lead.

Shortly after Harvey's goal, the Steel struck again. Johnson received the puck to make a cross ice pass to Chris Able at the point. Able found Michael Hagens with a short pass, who deked around a defender and sunk a shot through traffic to increase the Steel's lead to 3-1.

Following a Steel penalty with less than three minutes left in the third, Muskegon pulled its goalie and once again capitalized on the man advantage. Gavin McCarthy ripped a shot from the point which rebounded off Stark's left pad. Ethan Whitcomb quickly capitalized, sending the puck past Stark's left skate.

An unfortunate turnover by Stark just over a minute later led to the game-tying goal. Stark gathered the puck behind his own net and, in trying to clear the puck out of harm's way, inadvertently put the puck on Jake Richard's stick at the top of the circles. Richard quickly shot a wrister with Stark still out of the net, tying the game at 3-3.

A penalty at the end of regulation against Chicago set up Muskegon with a 4-on-3 powerplay to start the extra session.

With the Steel on the kill, Mick Thompson found a streaking Harvey at center ice to create a shorthanded breakaway chance. Harvey deked left and right before scoring through the five-hole for the game winner.

It was Harvey's league-leading 18th goal of the season, 13 of which have come in the last ten games. He also leads the USHL with 32 points (18G, 14A).
