Caps Fight Back, Ultimately Fall to USNTDP
December 2, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
The Capitols continued their five-game road stretch on Friday night in Michigan as they were facing off against the USNTDP U-17's. This was the first matchup between the two sides this season. Last year, Madison had a 5-3-0-0 record against the National Development Program as a whole.
The US and Madison battled in the first period with both teams getting quality chances in the first period. USA took advantage of one of their opportunities, and Madison didn't. The same could be said in the second period with the US extending their lead to 2-0 after two period of play.
Madison answered back in the third to bring themselves within one thanks to a power play goal for Nathan Lewis. The goal for Lewis was his fourth of the season, which was answered quickly by the National Development Program. The Caps, down two again, battled back within one thanks to a goal from Miko Matikka. The goal for the Finnish forward for the Capitols was his tenth of the season.
Down the stretch, Madison brought themselves close enough to bring on the extra attacker late. With the net empty, the US sloppily threw one down the ice, which found its way into the back of the net after a deflection along the way. That put the nail in the coffin of the Capitols chances on Friday night.
Madison is back at it again tomorrow night against the U-17's. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT.
