ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have announced that two-time MLB All-Star INF Elvis Andrus will begin a rehab assignment with the Round Rock Express beginning Saturday, June 16. Andrus is expected to be in the starting lineup for the E-Train as the team faces the Fresno Grizzlies (Houston Astros affiliate) at 6:05 p.m. at Dell Diamond.

Andrus has been sidelined since April 12 with a right elbow fracture suffered when he was hit with a pitch by Los Angeles Angels RHP Keynan Middleteon. He was transferred from the Rangers' 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list on May 2.

The two-time All-Star began his rehab assignment with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders on June 11, going 1-18 with a walk and a run scored in five games. Andrus will be appearing in a Triple-A game for the first time in his 19-year professional career when he suits up for the Express this weekend.

The 29-year-old set career highs in home runs, RBI, hits and slugging percentage with the Rangers a year ago. He currently owns the longest tenure of any active Ranger at the major league level, having appeared in 1,421 of the club's 1,501 games since 2007.

Andrus is the all-time Texas Rangers leader in stolen bases, games at shortstop, bunt hits and infield hits. He ranks second in club history in sacrifice hits and third in triples. He has stolen at least 20 bases in each season since 2009, setting a new club record. The Venezuelan was named to the American League squad in the MLB All-Star Game in both 2010 and 2012.

The Round Rock Express open a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies (Houston Astros affiliate) on Saturday night at Dell Diamond. E-Train RHP Adrian Sampson (3-2, 7.11) is scheduled to start against Grizzlies RHP Trent Thornton (4-4, 3.28). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
