Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn (Dec. 4, 2010) - Josh Bailey scored his first two goals as a Sound Tiger and Nathan Lawson made 36 saves as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Providence Bruins 4-1 at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday Night. The Sound Tigers improve to 11-12-1-1 overall and 9-3-1-0 at home with the win. Providence falls to 9-10-2-1.
Josh Bailey scored his first goal as a Sound Tiger to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period. Mark Katic's one-timer was stopped by Providence netminder Nolan Schaefer, but Bailey backhanded the rebound over Schaefer to put the Sound Tigers in front 1-0 with 9:28 left in the first. The Sound Tigers made it 2-0 as Olivier Labelle netted his first goal of the season after Trent Campbell freed the puck and found a wide open Labelle in the slot. Nathan Lawson stopped all 14 shots he faced and after the first period the Sound Tigers had a two-goal lead.
Providence cut the deficit in half at the 10:14 mark of the second period. The P-Bruins cashed in on a prolonged shift in the Sound Tigers zone. Steven Kampfer's shot from the point was initially stopped by Lawson, but Levi Nelson snapped the rebound past Lawson for his fourth of the season to make the score 2-1 heading to the third period.
Bailey and Figren provided two insurance goals late in the third. Bailey netted his second goal of the night on a rebound on the Sound Tigers first power play of the evening to put the home team ahead 3-1. Just 30 seconds later, Schaefer mishandled a rebound and Robin Figren fired it home for his team-leading ninth tally as the Sound Tigers won 4-1.
The Sound Tigers return to action Wednesday night when they host the Springfield Falcons at 7 p.m.
