Houston's Cody Almond slid in a rebound 2:42 into overtime, breaking the tie and give the Aeros their fourth win in five games against Texas this season. Texas erased two separate deficits to force the overtime, including Cody Chupp's goal with 5:02 remaining in regulation to tie the game 3-3. Stars forwards Travis Morin and Colton Sceviour also scored in the Texas defeat. Stars defenseman Severin Blindenbacher set up two goals as Texas fell to 9-5-1-1 at home this season. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (8-4-1) stopped 32 of 36 shots in the overtime loss. Houston goalie Anton Khudobin (9-5-1) stopped 21 of 24 shots in the win. The Stars conclude a seven-game home stand with the Manitoba Moose on Tuesday at 7:30 pm at Cedar Park Center.
The Aeros scored the only first-period goal on the power play at 7:36, as defenseman Nate Prosser fired a shot through traffic and past Texas goalie Richard Bachman for his third goal of the year. Center Jarod Palmer and Chad Rau helped set up the goal to give Houston a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, Houston extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal after left wing Colton Gillies scored his third goal of the year at 3:21. The Stars trimmed the Aeros lead in half at 2-1 with a power-play goal at 16:26. Center Travis Morin put in a rebound off a Severin Blindenbacher shot for his team-leading ninth goal of the year. Left wing Fabian Brunnstrom added an assist as Texas went to the locker room trailing 2-1 through two periods.
Just 1:13 into the third period, the Stars tied the game 2-2 after right wing Colton Sceviour backhanded a rebound into the Houston net. Blindenbacher and Raymond Sawada assisted on Sceviour's third goal of the year. The Aeros regained their lead at 6:32 with a goal by Warren Peters. The former Star rifled a shot from the left-wing wall in the Texas zone for his fourth goal of the year and a 3-2 Houston lead. It marked his third goal in five games against his former team this season. Texas erased the one-goal deficit with 5:02 remaining in regulation. Rookie winger Cody Chupp scored off a centering pass from right wing Sean Backman, scoring his second goal of the year and tying the game 3-3.
In overtime, the Aeros took advantage of a power play. Center Cody Almond scored the game-winning goal off a rebound of a Marco Scandella shot, giving the Aeros the 4-3 victory just 2:42 into the extra frame.
Prior to the game, the Dallas Stars announced that the club has recalled defenseman Philip Larsen from the Texas Stars, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Larsen, 20, has appeared in 18 games for Texas this season, earning nine assists with four penalty minutes and a +2 rating. He was recalled by Dallas earlier this season and appeared in one game (Oct. 28 vs. LA, earning one assist). Larsen was selected by Dallas in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
