
Rampage Defeat Grand Rapids 6-3

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (December 4, 2010)-The San Antonio Rampage won their second consecutive game as they defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 6-3 at Van Andel Arena on Saturday night. The Rampage improve to 17-6-1-0 as they continue to lead the West Division and Western Conference standings with 35 points.
Rampage center Andrew Ebbett recorded his first three-point night in a Rampage jersey with one goal and two assists, while Petr Prucha and Oliver Ekman-Larsson each scored twice.
Brett MacLean had a two-point game as he tallied one goal and one assist and Mikkel Boedker registered two assists for a team-leading seventh multiple-point night.
The Rampage improved their road power play percentage to 30.2% as they scored three power-play goals on six attempts remaining atop the AHL standings in power-play goals on the road.
The Griffins took a 1-0 advantage 11:27 after the initial faceoff as Derek Meech's shot from the right faceoff circle beat Rampage goaltender Al Montoya blocker side.
The Rampage tied the game at 1-1 when Bracken Kearns set up right wing Prucha on a breakaway for a shorthanded goal that went low glove side on Griffins netminder Joey MacDonald 16:55 into the first period.
Grand Rapids outshot the Rampage 13-6 in the first period, however, San Antonio responded in the second frame outshooting the Griffins 18-4.
Ekman-Larsson opened the second session with his first professional goal just 16 seconds into period giving the Rampage a 2-1 lead. Ebbett sent a drop pass down the left boards to Ekman-Larsson who beat MacDonald low stick side. Boedker provided the second assist.
Grand Rapids evened the score at 2-2 after forward Ilari Filppula backhanded the puck low glove side past Montoya 14:32 into the second period for the Griffin's fifth shorthanded goal of the season.
With two seconds remaining on the power play, Ekman-Larsson netted his second goal of the period 15:47 into the middle stanza. David Brine assisted on Ekman-Larsson's shot from the blue line that went through traffic beating MacDonald for a 3-2 Rampage advantage.
The Rampage extended their lead 4-2 after Prucha scored on a centering feed from MacLean at the top of the crease with 12 seconds left in the second period. Ebbett picked up his second assist of the night on the Rampage's second consecutive power-play goal.
San Antonio claimed a 5-2 lead as Ebbett punched in a rebound goal that went low glove side at the 4:50 mark of the third period. Chris Summers and Boedker added the helpers.
Filppula recorded his second goal of the evening on the power play cutting the Rampage lead to 5-3 at the 7:22 mark of the final frame when he punched in the rebound off a Francis Pare shot.
The Rampage finalized their victory at 6-3 as MacLean scored his fifth power-play goal of the season 10:37 into the third period.
Montoya improved to a 7-3-0 record stopping 20 of 23 Griffins shots while MacDonald made 25 saves on 33 Rampage shots.
The Rampage conclude a three-in-three series tomorrow as they face the Griffins at 3 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
