Almond Lifts Aeros in OT

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS --- Cody Almond scored the power play game-winner in overtime as the Houston Aeros nipped the Texas Stars 4-3 Saturday night at Cedar Park Center.

The win pulled Houston into a tie for fourth place in the West Division with the Milwaukee Admirals. Each team has 29 points, while the win over the Stars gave the Aeros one more win (13) than Milwaukee, which was idle Saturday.

Colton Gillies had a goal and an assist for the Aeros while Marco Scandella chipped in with two assists. Anton Khudobin made 21 saves

Fabian Brunnstrom's high-sticking penalty put the Aeros on a 4-on-3 advantage 50 seconds into extra time. Almond cashed in to give the Aeros their fourth win in five tries over the Stars. J.M. Daoust and Scandella earned assist on the winning goal.

The Aeros took a 2-0 lead late into the second period on goals by Nate Prosser and Gillies. Prosser bagged a power play marker 7:36 into the first while Gillies potted an even strength tally at 8:21 of the second.

Texas responded with a power play goal by Travis Morin at 16:26 and then evened the score with Colton Sceviour's tally just 1:13 into the final period.

Warren Peters answered to pull the Aeros ahead at 6:32, but Texas pressured and again tied the game, this time on Cody Chupp's goal at 14:58.

The Aeros travel to Oklahoma City for a matchup on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. with the Barons. The team returns home Friday, Dec. 10, to face the San Antonio Rampage in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Call 713-974-7825 713-974-7825 for more information on Aeros tickets and other promotions.
