
Tazawa dominates the Defenders, \'Dogs win 7-3!

(Norwich, CT) - RHP Junichi Tazawa (2-2) fired five strong innings and Portland scored six runs in the second, grabbing game one from the Connecticut Defenders (10-11), 7-3 on Friday night at Dodd Stadium in front of 2,740 fans. Portland ends a 2-game losing streak on the road and evens their overall record to 10-10
Tazawa's only blemish came in the fourth inning on 1B Brett Pill's sacrifice fly. The righty beat Connecticut for the first time, allowing only two hits, two walks and fanned six. The Defenders were 0-for-5 with runners-in-scoring position off Tazawa.
RHP Brooks McNiven (0-1) allowed seven runs (six earned) over 4 IP, yielding seven hits and a walk to take the loss for the home team. McNiven has allowed 11 runs in his last 7 IP against Portland.
The Sea Dogs received a hit from eight of nine starters, including multi-hit games from DH Jon Still (2-for-4, RBI) and RF Reid Engel (2-for-4, RBI). 2B Zach Borowiak knocked in two runs and finished 1-for-3 with a double.
Portland's 6-run explosion started on missed catch by 1B Brett Pill, allowing LF Aaron Bates to reach base. Bates scored the first run of the series on Still's single to left field. C John Otness (1-for-3, RBI) followed with a run-scoring single and Engel delivered an RBI double. After Borowiak's RBI groundout, CF Bubba Bell clubbed a 2-run homer over the left-centerfield wall - his 4th of the season.
Connecticut added two runs in the sixth inning off RHP Chad Rhoades (1.2 IP). RF Eddy Martinez-Esteve reached on an error and scored on LF Bobby Felmy's 2-run homer to right-center field. RHP Chris Province and RHP T.J. Large closed out the game with 2.1 scoreless innings.
