Brown Wins Third As 'Wolves Down Altoona 5-2

Erie SeaWolves News Release
A 24-minute power outage at Blair County Ballpark on Friday night was not enough to hold down the SeaWolves as they took down the Altoona Curve, 5-2, in the opener of a three-game series.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Altoona starter Daniel Moskos. Scott Sizemore walked to lead off the inning but was retired at second on a ground ball off the bat of Max Leon. Deik Scram stepped in and singled putting two on for cleanup hitter Ryan Strieby. Strieby walked for the 11th time, loading the bases for Jeff Frazier. Frazier laced a bases clearing double to the wall in left center, giving the âWovles a 3-0 lead. Brennan Boesch followed with a double down the left field line, scoring Frazier for a 4-0 lead.
Erie added to its lead in the top of the fourth. Jeff Kunkel was hit by a pitch with one out and he moved into scoring position on a bunt single by Scott Sizemore. With the hit, Sizemore has now hit safely in 17 of 20 games this season. Leon followed with a double off of the glove of Altoona third baseman Angel Gonzalez. The ball trickled into left field, allowing Kunkel to score for a 5-0 lead.
Altoona would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Brooks Brown. Pedro Lopez would single to start the inning for Altoona's first hit of the game. Jonel Pacheco then hit into a double play to erase the baserunner. Jason Delaney doubled and was doubled home by Brad Corley to put the Curve on the board, cutting Erie's lead down to a four runs at 5-1. The run given up by Brown was the first he had given up all season. Brown started the season with 21.1 scoreless innings.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth. Brown worked into the eighth, which was the deepest an Erie starter has worked in a game this season. He walked Gonzalez and worked a 3-2 count on Lopez. That's when the ballpark went dark. 24-minutes later, the lights came back on but Brown's day was done. In came Cody Satterwhite with a four-run lead. He gave up back-to-back singles to Lopez and Pacheco. The Pacheco single brought home Gonzalez, taking Erie's lead down to three runs at 5-2. Satterwhite retired the next two batters to end the inning.
In the ninth, Satterwhite struck out the first two hitters before giving up a single to James Boone. He came back to strike out Anderson Machado on a 3-2 fastball to end the game, preserving the Erie win.
Brown (3-0) worked seven-plus innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout. He is the first Erie pitcher to three wins and his 0.73 ERA is still tops in the Eastern League.
