New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Binghamton, NY---Brian Dopirak hit his club-leading fifth home run of the season, but the Fisher Cats lost 8-2 Friday night at Binghamton in a game shortened to six innings because of rain.
The Mets (11-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on doubles by Salvatore Paniagua (2-for-4, RBI) and Josh Peterson (2-for-3, 2 RBI).
Binghamton added four more runs off losing pitcher Luis Perez (2-2) in the bottom of the third inning. Lucas Duda (2-for-4, 3 RBI) singled in two runs, Shawn Bowman added a sacrifice fly and Peterson singled home another run to give the Mets a 5-0 lead.
Dopirak (2-for-3, HR, RBI) launched a solo home run to left field with two outs in the fourth inning off Mets starter Fernando Nieve. David Cooper followed with double and scored on a triple by Nick Gorneault, making it 5-2.
The Mets extended the lead to 8-2 in the last of the sixth inning. Mark Kiger doubled and moved up to third on a sacrifice hit. He scored on a single by Jonathan Malo off reliever Celson Polanco. Duda then tripled in Malo and he scored on a single by Paniagua.
New Hampshire had scored a run in the top of the seventh inning and had loaded the bases with one out when it started raining. After waiting an hour, the game was called and the score reverted to where it was after six innings at 8-2 in favor of Binghamton.
Eric Brown (2-2), who relieved Nieve in the fourth inning, earned the win for the Mets.
The series continues Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm. Brandon Magee (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start of the season for the Fisher Cats against Binghamton LHP Mike Antonini (3-0, 4.35). The game can heard starting with the BayRing Communications pre-game show at 12:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
