Altoona Curve News Release
LAST NIGHT:
The Altoona Curve pounded out a season-high 12 runs on 18 hits and pounded the Reading Phillies, 12-7 on Thursday night. Altoona cracked a franchise record seven doubles in the contest. RHP Yoslan Herrera tossed 4.2 scoreless innings of relief to grab the win.
TONIGHT'S GAME AT A GLANCE:
The Altoona Curve and Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit) will lock horns for the ninth time this season...with the unbalanaced schedule in the Eastern League, Altoona will play the âWolves 15 more times after tonight's contest.
TONIGHT'S STARTING PITCHERS:
LHP Daniel Moskos will make his fourth start of the 2009 season. Moskos was the tough-luck loser in his last outing (4/25) at Akron. Moskos allowed four runs over 6.1 innings...Moskos was the first round draft choice (fourth overall) by Pittsburgh in June, 2007.
The âWolves will send right-hander Brooks Brown to the mound. The 23-year old was selected in the first round of the 2006 draft (34th overall) out of the University of Georgia by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Brown spent the last two seasons with the Double-A Mobile Baybears of the Southern League and was dealt by Arizona to the Detroit chain in order to keep their Rule V selection, James Skelton...Brown will make his third appearance of the season against Altoona. He is 1-0 against the Curve.
HOME, SWEET HOME:
The Altoona Curve will open their first of 18 games tonight in the month of May. The Curve were home for just seven days in the month of April. Altoona has a 3-3 record at BCB to match their total number of wins they accumulated on the road in 14 contests.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE:
With the Curve pounding out seven doubles in last night's win versus Reading, the Curve broke a franchise record. Six doubles had been hit in a contest numerous times, with the last time coming on May 30, 2008 versus Erie.
BULL OF A PEN:
Over the last 14 games, Altoona's bullpen has been called to duty often. They have come through, tossing 64.1 innings over that span, allowing just 10 earned runs (1.40 ERA)...RHP Lincoln Holdzkom has also not allowed a run in his last five outings (9.2 ip)...RHP Jean Machi has only allowed one earned run in 10.2 innings pitched this season (0.84 ERA)
ALTOONA'S NEW MAYOR:
Catcher Milver Reyes was promoted from Lynchburg today. Once Reyes makes his 2009 debut in Altoona, it will be his fourth season he has appeared in a Curve uniform.
TABATA ON THE SHELF:
Also today, outfielder Jose Tabata was placed on the Disabled List with a strained right hamstring he suffered on Tuesday in the first game of the Reading series.
