
Syracuse tops Lehigh Valley in walk-off

(Syracuse, NY) - The Syracuse Mets (4-13) topped the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (10-7) in dramatic fashion on Saturday night as Sebastian Elizalde scored the winning run on a passed by IronPigs catcher Edgar Cabral. It is the first time the season the IronPigs were defeated in a walk-off situation.
The IronPigs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Luke Williams scored on a throwing error by third baseman David Thompson. Syracuse tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Thompson homered off Julian Garcia.
The Mets extended their lead to 2-1 when Nick Meyer hit an RBI single off Garcia to score Mason Williams. The lead became 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Drew Jackson hit a two-run home run against Ethan Evanko and Williams hit an RBI single to score Cody Bohanek.
The Pigs got a second run in the top of the fifth inning when Roman Quinn hit an RBI single against Bradley Roney to score Williams. J.D. Davis homered off Evanko in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend Syracuse's lead 6-2. Jackson smacked his second home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Syracuse a 7-2 lead.
Lehigh Valley inched closer in the top of the seventh inning when Ruben Tejada hit an RBI double against Sam McWilliams to score Williams. Ryan Cordell scored on a wild pitch by McWilliams to make it a 7-4 contest.
Darick Hall hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning that was followed by a solo home run from Cornelius Randolph. Randolph extended his hitting streak to seven-games. Cody Bohanek gave Syracuse an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning when hit a sacrifice fly to score Thompson. Cordell tied the game in the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run against Corey Oswalt (1-0).
Neftali Feliz (1-1) took the loss when the winning run scored in the bottom of the ninth inning for Syracuse.
The IronPigs and Mets wrap up their six-game series on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
